CatDog

February29,2008 · No Comments

So not sure if anyone remembers the kids show cat dog but I couldn’t pass this one up. Here’s our version of it    100_1787.jpg
Skyler Cat and Xena Dog. I still haven’t done to much crafting this week. My brother and his family leave tomorrow so we will all be a little sad. Today I spent some time making this yummy salsa for dinner tonight.100_1784.jpg
I think it’s my favorite salsa and so easy to make. I even have canned it and kept it in the fridge for awhile and amazingly it doesn’t get soggy. Today when my girls get done with school we’re going to an indoor play area with the cousins, which will hopefully burn off some steam since the high this morning was -18f just a little chilly and it hasn’t warmed up that much to let them play outside. So a good game of laser tag should be fun. I did manage to buy some fabric yesterday (yea can’t imagine how THAT happened) so those will be made into bags when I get a spare moment. My SIL also picked out fabric for me to make some place mats and napkins so those will be shipped when they’re done. She really loved mine but I only had a small amount left and told her sorry I just couldn’t part with it. She understood but claims I don’t love her.lol. However the fabric she did pick it fantastic and I will post a pic when they’re done.  I also picked up another needle punch pattern to work on and yes I’m totally hooked no pun intended. Next week I’m hoping to get some sewing done but it looks like it will be a crazy stressful week. My Dad has been informed that he needs to go have a cardiac cath done, so on Wed my Mom and I will be going with him while hubby stays with the kids and does the school thing. We’re hoping he won’t need anything done and can come home that night but since it’s been nine years since he did have a heart attack we are realistic in the fact that he probably will have to have a stent put in and stay the night. So since I can’t just sit and do nothing I will be doing some sort of knitting project or needle punch so I don’t go crazy in the waiting room.I just pray that we don’t have a snowstorm to drive in. My Dad is a strong man so I know everything will be ok but the next week is just going to suck since I’m really not that great at waiting. So it will be a perfect time for me to work on some projects and stay busy so stay tuned for some craft related pics ( I hope). Oh yea and we’re supposed to get more snow tonight I don’t know where we’re going to put it I must get a pic of the snow bank for all of you living in warm areas it is truly crazy how much snow we have right now. At least the sun is shining.

Thawing Out

February27,2008 · 1 Comment

A little blog break there but I’m now back. We have been enjoying spending lots of family time and the girls have had play-dates, shopping trips,sleep-overs and lots of good times. Saturday will be a sad day when we have to say good bye. It finally stopped snowing after two days and 17″. Today we took the kids out of school and went and skied with our Alaskan crew it was such a blast and little Andrew is skiing the whole mountain. I’m so proud. Of course he discovered how to go fast and we have to keep giving him a “red light”. I think I’m still thawing out from the day on the slopes since we there until after 5 which the kids thought was great to ski under the lights. I haven’t gotten much quilting/sewing done this week but that’s ok. I made a great moose dinner last night for my brother and family and it was funny that being from Alaska they hadn’t really had it but it was a huge hit which made me happy since he’s a great chef. Tomorrow we are going to hit one of the local quilt shops so I of course will be glad to have my quilt fix. Here’s a few pics of what we’ve been up to.

Some of the guys in my life 100_1774.jpg100_1775.jpg

Now I’m off to find a warm quilt get under since I’m STILL freezing and of  course the legs are a wee bit sore.

The Cousins Have Arrived

February21,2008 · 2 Comments

100_1771.jpg
Well the cousins have all arrived and we couldn’t be happier. My parents finally have all their children and their grandchildren under one roof. All though I’m sure they were glad to see most of us go home after dinner. Speaking of dinner I was able to get two of favorite men together for a shot my two big brothers who I love so much.100_1773.jpg
I must get a picture of the three of us together since the only one I could find was from when we were kids. Here’s the girls having a cuddle my two with the two Alaska ones.

Today we went Ice Skating but my camera was left in the car. Tonight we’re off to Mexican for dinner yummmm and tomorrow some other outdoor activity. Maybe cross country skiing. It doesn’t matter what we really do it’s just so fun to have the kids all together. Aunt S I thought you would enjoy the pics. Haven’t they gotten so big?!

Yea not much for the title today. Kids are fighting constantly, my stress level is thru the roof and I HATE winter break. If they want the kids to have a break give them an extra week at spring week. At least they can be outside more. Enough of my whining, I did manage to get this bag made and listed on etsy100_1766.jpg

it’s made from Capri Sun drink pouches and they’re the cutest things. Not to mention a great conversation piece. I love to use them when the kids have wet towels or suits in the summer but they also like to use them as their totes when going places. I’ve added ribbon to this hat and not sure if it’s any better100_1762.jpg

hubby says it’s looks to poofy but the style is supposed to be loose and comfy. The quilt is off the frame and awaiting binding100_1763.jpg 100_1764.jpg

I also managed to get one child outside100_1769.jpg unfortunately the girls are the ones I wanted OUT.I sure hope that tomorrow is an easier less stressful day. Thankfully the cousins arrive tomorrow so that should help break up things or else this Mommy is going to have a melt down. It’s February, dreary, cold, the time of year when most feel fat, so I think that pretty much sums up the mood here. Oh Spring please come soon.

Hubby Rocks

February17,2008 · 1 Comment

First off I have to say that there isn’t much my hubby can’t fix. The laser on the frame wasn’t in need of a battery after all it was in need of a whole new laser. So hubby went off to the store and bought a new one and then rigged it specially since they don’t carry the original size I had. It works great and hopefully I will find some more time to quilt on the frame today. The two youngest have each had a birthday party to go to, one yesterday the other today so I’ve been making backpacks for them. Here’s one, the other one I forgot to photograph before giving it away.100_1757.jpg

I also started and finished this cute urchin beret from my new book called Twinkles Weekend Knits by Wenlan Chia. 100_1759.jpg100_1761.jpg

The hat is supposed to fit loose and has the “holes” built into the pattern but I’m not loving it. I may try adding some ribbon thru the holes and next time I may go down a needle size. It is a fast knit project but needs some tweaking. The book is fantastic and has a great sweater pattern I want to be brave and try but I’m still looking for just the right color yarn. I also finished this100_1758.jpg  my first attempt at needle punch. It wasn’t that hard and I like how it came out. I made it into a pillow and put some lavender in it so it smells  nice. This is going be a gift for my SIL Tashina who recently just gave us all a horrible scare. Or rather the jerk Dr did. After a routine exam that they found”something” and after doing more visual tests they told her she had breast cancer and needed a biopsy well first you should never tell someone they have cancer without more info. They told her she had a slim chance of it not being cancer. THANKFULLY she was lucky and the biopsy came back fine. After a week of all of us being very shaken up we were so happy to hear this news. So this little pillow is going to her as a talisman if you will for good luck not to mention I needed a project to do while being very stressed . Another good thing that came out of this scare is they realized they needed to see some family so on Wed they will all be arriving from Alaska, and man I can’t wait to give Tashina that hug in person and of course by brother and adorable nieces. My kids have all week off from school so we will be able to do some fun things all together while they’re here and then the following week the kids can play”sick” a little from school. Off to quilting tonight for some much needed Mommy time if the weather holds off (oh please hold off I need some time without kids.) Of course we’re supposed to get another ice storm, I don’t mind snow storms since then the kids can go play outside but ice is just a mess and then makes it so the kids have to stay indoors.  Off to shower and take one to a party.

Slow Motion

February14,2008 · 1 Comment

100_1752.jpg100_1753.jpg
I feel like I’m working in slow motion. Must be the weather. While loading the quilt onto the frame one of the bars came off and it took me 20min to find the damn screw. Then I had limited time to quilt since it was almost pick up kids time. Finally after dinner and kids were in bed I got back to it only to have my laser crap out. Must be the battery so tomorrow I’m off to find some AAA batteries. So much for getting more quilting done. I am happy with how it’s turning out so far but without the laser the pantograph isn’t going to be the way I want it to be so I’m hoping it’s just in need of a battery. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive. Now I’m off to watch the rest of Lost which is so darn disturbing it’s addicting.

Ice Day

February13,2008 · No Comments

Instead of it being a Snow Day the kids have off from school do more to an Ice day. It’s just gross out which is perfect for us to have a day of hibernating. My middle one was a little upset to not have school since she was supposed to have a field trip which she missed last time because of a snow day. I’m seeing a pattern here with this trip. Maybe the third time they will get lucky and get to go. Already today we have made this yummy Venison Vegetable Soup for dinner 100_1750.jpg
these yummy Choc Chip Cookies 100_1751.jpg these are my Moms recipe and no doubt will probably be gone by morning since they’re hubby’s favorite. We also have homemade bread baking to have with dinner. The beds are made the laundry is washing and of course a pile to be put away which that always seems to be the case. So now maybe I can find sometime to get some sewing done. The siblings however are feeling a little antsy today and have already had MANY arguments. Which of course is making a grumpy Mommy. I can hardly wait for next week when they’ re home for winter break. But we may be having some unexpected visitors from Alaska which would be fantastic. Still waiting to hear on that though. I’m keeping my finger crossed it would be such a great surprise and a much needed visit since it’s going on three years and I’m dying for some real hugs.

Girls are a sewing

February12,2008 · No Comments

100_1748.jpg
Well the girls have been sewing. The oldest is making aprons and the one sporting the green Janome is making a bag for a friends birthday. With the weather at frigid temps it’s a nice indoor activity. Tomorrow we’re supposed to get over a foot of snow so we’ve lined up some magazines, movies, and of course sewing projects to keep us busy. I just finished this top100_1749.jpg it’s the snap shots pattern from the Happy Hour book by Atkinson Designs. This afternoon Andrew and I made a Jo-Anns run to get some batting and backing so hopefully I can get this baby on the quilt frame and work on that tomorrow if we have a snow day. I’ m still piecing the back together(my least fav part of the whole process) but should have that done soon. This quilt is probably going to go to the girls school spring fair. Every year they do this fair and people donate items that you can by raffle tickets to and then the proceeds go back into the school. Every year I have donated a quilt and one or two handbags. The theme this year is Mardi Gras  and while I don’t always do the quilt to the theme this one should be perfect. The fabric was all from my stash except the backing and batting. Now I have to figure out what design to quilt and then I will be all set. I will post a better picture once it’s quilted.
