I decided that the winner is going to receive this new bag that I made up myself. It has a nice inside pocket and snap closeure. Can be worn regular or across so your hands are nice and free.

So Kathleen could you email me your address so I can ship out your little goodie?! Hopefully you will like these colors. I know it’s summer where you are now but these colors kind of work all year round. Well I have a four year old having a major temper tantrum must be something in the air so Congrats and thanks to all of you who left a comment maybe next time the winner will be you.

50th post giveway

January28,2008 · 4 Comments

Wow this is my 50th post so I’m going to do a giveaway. I think I’m going to keep it a surprise to make it a little more interesting. So all you lurkers out there it’s time to de-lurk. I know you’re out there so don’t be shy. Leave me a comment before Wed and I will announce the winner sometime on Wednesday. I also have another milestone I finally was happy with something I sewed to wear. The previous two times have been a disaster but this time I finally got it. Yippy. I have already made notes on what I will do differently next time but I still will wear this one. The only thing I couldn’t live with is they have you use a hook and eye to close the back. WELL after re hooking it 10times before 8am I was ready to scream so my daughter who’s ten said well Mom why don’t you just put in a zipper. I said that’s a great idea but I’ve never really done a zipper without specific instructions so I decided to get my Starbucks and have at it.  I actually had the perfect color zipper in my stash must be fate so I pulled out my Janome manual looked up zippers attached the foot and voila I have a pretty good zipper that’s somewhat invisible. Here’s what the pattern was 100_1697.jpg

and here’s what I came up with.100_1713.jpg 100_1712.jpg

I’m thinking this could even have some length added and it would make a great sun dress. I know I had said I was going to use Amy Butler fabric but I chickened out so I may just have to make another one. It’s so comfy and also great at hiding those few extra pounds we seem to have in the winter.  I think I will have to try some more clothing projects since I’m now a little more confident.

Finished Gift

January26,2008 · No Comments

With about five minutes to spare of Hubby pulling into the driveway last night I finished Moms gifts.whew. They were quickly packaged and loaded in the car for dinner. Here’s Mom with her Birthday goodies.100_1708.jpg100_1709.jpg
She was feeling shy but at least she posed. She ended up with a “flower garden” apron, note-taker in matching fabric for all those notes and lists she needs to keep and a homemade card. I’ve never really done the card thing before but it was fun and I like how it came out. Dinner was yummy and we had some extra entertainment from both the kids and adults. Next time I think the family in Alaska will be put on speaker phone so they can “enjoy” too. Here’s a pic of the new do and Andrew was the only one home to take a photo so consider the photographer and the fact that he had to “fix” Mommy’s hair first and this is what you get.100_1707.jpg
Hubby says it’s too short!! I like it but I think it makes me look older. Crap that wasn’t what I was going for. Oh well it always grows not to mention I’ve had it boy short before so I still consider it long. Off to take the kids snowshoeing since the ski mountain is to crowded today due to ski races going on.  Hopfully we can do this without the girls fighting. I won’t hold my breath.

-4 Are you kidding?

January25,2008 · 1 Comment

Oh my it was -4 out this morning when I took the kids to school at 8am. BRRR. The sun is shining so at least it helps make thins feel a little warmer then they are. I did finish my “gloves” and love how they feel. I of course wore them this morning. Since the only one home to take a photo is my sweet 4yr old here’s what we got.100_1704.jpg

Not bad!! He then responded so do I get my own camera NOW. Yea no. But it’s good to know that if I need him to take a photo I know he can. I also got a nice email this morning from my Four Seasons Swap partner she got her gift and loves it. I’m so glad since it was so fun for me to do. I had been a faithful reader of her blog so when I found out I got to make her something I was thrilled. You can see her at www.quiltincorn.blogspot.com  On another note today is the most wonderful women in the world’s Birthday my MOMMY. So in honor of her we are having a family dinner for her tonight at my brothers. I will be sporting my new socks to keep my toes warm, and my new “gloves” to keep my hands warm, and also a new do. I treated my self to a haircut this morning and love how it came out. SO now for the afternoon I’m going to be sewing a little something for mom. She’s the hardest to buy/make for because she has everything and wants nothing. I do have a few simple ideas and of course no gift could ever compare to the “gifts” she gives us daily. Her love, her patience, her opinions (not always wanted) but always listened to. If I can be half as good a Mom to my little ones as she is to me I will consider myself and my kids lucky. Happy Birthday Mom!! I LOVE YOU.

Needles are a flying

January22,2008 · 2 Comments

Well the knitting needles have just been flying right a long on making thing this week. We have a pair of socks, yes it is hard to take a photo of your own feet.100_1695.jpg

I just love how they came out and they’re so cozy to wear. Not bad for a first pair. I also have finished one wristlet I really must find circular needles in the size needed while the dpn work they just take me longer. Still working on the second one.100_1698.jpg

It’s also hard to take a pic of your own hand. I managed to pick up this book the other day and love it.100_1696.jpg I have this on my list of things to make this week

100_1697.jpg

I’m seeing Amy Butler fabric if I have enough.Hopefully this attempt won’t turn into a disaster like all my other attempts at sewing clothing. This book does seem very easy to follow and understand so I’m feeling pretty confident. Since the weather is quite chilly today I’m hoping to finish my second wristlet so I can wear them out and about. Tonight Hubby and I and some good friends are going out to dinner without kids. I’m so excited plus we’re trying a new place that has gotten great reviews.YUMMMM I don’t need to cook it, clean it, or wait on anyone. What could be sweeter than that?

Olympians????

January20,2008 · No Comments

The poor sewing machine is being neglected between my girls skating at Lake Placid on Friday and knitting I haven’t had a chance to sew. I did finish my socks but still need to take a photo. Here however are my two little skater gals. The youngest got second in her group and my oldest got third in her group. While they didn’t feel they skated the best I’m still as proud as can be. We also explained to them that even Olympians have “bad”days.

100_1646.jpg100_1649.jpg100_1651.jpg
Unfortunately the lighting wasn’t very good since we were in the U.S.A rink which has now become the practice rink. The girls were still excited that famous skaters have skated here. After a stressful ride up in a snow storm going 40mph in the dark since my littlest had to be on the ice at 8:20 a 1 1/2 hr drive took 2 1/2hr. I was very glad the sun came out later in the day since my nerves couldn’t take the ride home in that weather too. My girls were also glad to see there friend Callie and her mom Lisa(upstatelisa) and I were able to battle the mommy nerves together. We went away today for a nice family day today and here’s one of the sites we got to see.

Off to sewing tonight but still not sure what project to do. I guess I’m in a little funk.

Drinking In Style

January17,2008 · No Comments

100_16431.jpg
This felted bottle carrier can be found on my etsy site. They add style to just about any beverage. With all the knitting I’ve been doing I need to figure out what my next quilting project will be. Maybe I should dig out one of my ufo’s? I have the second sock to the same point as the first so after Saturdays class I should have a finished pair of Knitted socks. Woohoo.

Four Seasons Quilt

January15,2008 · 1 Comment

Well without further ado here is a picture of the finished quilt and a close up of the back. I didn’t want anyone to be able to read the label in case the person it’s for reads this blog. The label was done in the white glittery fabric in a mitten shape.

100_16411.jpg100_1642.jpg
I ended up quilting little mittens in the mitten blocks and snowflakes into the snowflake blocks. I can’t wait to see what everyone else did and of course what the one I receive will be like. I also found out yesterday that I won in the drawing artsycraftybabe was doing. I NEVER win anything so that was exciting and I now have another package to get excited about. Now I have to find a new quilting project to do the Christmas burn-out has sort of set in. I have been knitting though so I’m still being productive.

Sock Making prt 2

January13,2008 · No Comments

100_1639.jpg
We have a sock with a turned heel. Woooohoooo. Supposedly this is the trickiest part and I managed to do it. The picking up of stitches was a little tricky but they don’t look too bad for the first time. I already have the second sock knitted to the point where I can start doing the heel on that one as well. The last sock class is next Sat where we will learn how to finish the toe. I have learned so many things in this class that I can now use in other knitting projects. I also made this little pouch to put my double pointed needles in and I’m going to monogram the number of  the needle size on the pouch. That idea was hubby’s idea. I think I’m going to make some more for my other needles.

A John Deere Day

January9,2008 · No Comments

I think I’m all John Deere’d out for the day. Andrew has a birthday party to go to tomorrow so he wanted me to make him a back pack with the little boy’s name on it and we also got him a t-shirt and put his name on that( hopefully it will fit since it’s embroidered there’s no returning)yikes. Well while in the store Andrew reminded me that he had some Christmas money left and he just had to have the black back-pack. So we walked out with that too and came right home and embroidered his name on it. He now wants one to match the one I just made for his friend. I told him for his birthday.ugh.100_1636.jpg100_1637.jpg100_1638.jpg
